Katherine Sue Matthes, formerly known as Katherine Sue Clouse, was born on October 4, 1950, in Sturgis, Michigan. She passed away peacefully at her home on February 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was a lifetime member of the Sturgis Eagles #1314, the Sturgis Moose Lodge, VFW Post 1355, and the American Legion in LaGrange, Indiana. Her commitment to these organizations reflected her spirit of service and connection to her fellow community members.
Katherine enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout her life. She loved camping, mushroom hunting, and gambling. She possessed remarkable skills in sewing and crafts, particularly known for her beautiful Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, as well as practical items such as plastic bag holders and vacuum covers. Her creativity and talent brought joy to many in her life.
She was the beloved wife of Dennis, married for 53 years, and together they raised two children, Kim Matthes and Craig (Mira) Matthes. Katherine took great pride in her family, which expanded to include five grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kayla, Joey, Erin, and Kyle. She was also a proud great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Katherine shared a special bond with her six siblings: Jerry, Alan, George, Alice, Mary, and Patricia. She will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who cherished her presence in their lives.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Glema (Blanchard) Clouse, and three brothers, Michael, William, and Thomas. Her legacy of love, creativity, and community spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.
