Irvin Ray Ruby, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born in 1935, in Van Dyke, Michigan, Irv lived a life marked by dedication and service.
Irv proudly served as a sergeant in the City of Lansing Police Department, where he dedicated 25 years protecting and serving the community. His commitment to law enforcement left an impact on his colleagues and the residents he served.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Irv found joy as a docent at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, an institution close to his heart, where he shared his knowledge and interest in flight with visitors.
Irv is survived by his wife and best buddy, Janet, whom he married in 1982. He is survived by six children, Tom (Joy), Greg (Teri), Sue (Glen) Fountain, Mary Beth (Dan) Barkholz, Bryan, Chris (Debi), along with two stepchildren, Greg (Michelle) Smith and Kristin (Rick) Getter. Irv had over 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Jim (Louise). Irv was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry and Chuck.
Reflecting on Irv’s life, we honor his contributions, his kind spirit, and love of a good road trip. Irv's final contribution in this life was generously donating to Gift of Life, where he can continue to make an impact on others lives.
